BRUUUUUUUUUCE Box

The first summer we were dating (and by first,  I mean, only, since the second summer we were together, John was already in Afghanistan), we did a lot of road-tripping. Neither one of our cars has AC anymore, so no matter where we were going, what we were doing, or which car we were in, the windows were down and the music was cranked. It was perfect.

I'm not a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. But for whatever reason, we got fixated on "Born to Run." Maybe because it's fun to sing at the top of your lungs or because it's just about being young and in love. Whatever the reason, it was one of our songs of the summer.

So, it just happened to be the perfect theme for this box. I've referenced classic rock in boxes before (Bon Jovi, anyone?) and every time I do, I end up having that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day...er...week.  This box was no different.

"Born to Run" is just a perfect theme for a box of healthy stuff! John's been working out and running a lot (much to my embarrassment that I've not been doing so much of it). The box is filled with bottles of Gatorade, Clif Bars (which I found on crazy sale at Safeway), nut mixes, and homemade granola bars.

A Toke-n of My Love

I can just hear my mom calling me after I post this. "Oh, Joanna," she'll say. "You really had to put that on the internet?" I'll be able to hear her shaking her head over the phone. "Where is my lady?"

So, let me be completely clear-- if for nothing other than the sake of my long-suffering, patient, loving mother-- I am not a pothead. In fact, I've never even seen weed other than in DARE class in fifth grade. (If you couldn't tell from all of my other posts, I'm a really squeaky clean kind of gal. That might be to my detriment,  but I am who I am.)

However, this box earned every word of it's title. February was an exceptionally busy month, so for this box-- a box full of only baked and homemade goods, I had to wake up at 5 AM and make them before I went to work.

Yes, to make this box up, I literally would wake and bake.

These are the munchies (harhar) I woke and baked (boked?):
I like waking up and getting things done; it makes it even more worthwhile when I know that John will be able to wake up and eat!

The Truffle Shuffle (Er, Dash)

I am a terrible friend. One of my good friends and co-workers, Morgan, has invited me to her Christmas party, dinner out, and her birthday party, all within the last three months.

I accidentally slept through her Christmas party. I fell before going to dinner with her and mashed my knee so badly, I couldn't walk that night. And then, for her birthday, I drove around her neighborhood for 45 minutes trying to desperately find a parking spot.

No dice. I blame the stupid person who decided to park an 1980's RV on downtown Baltimore streets (Seriously, RV person, what are you doing?), the drunkenly weaving, St. Patty's Day t-shirt wearing idiots who were drinking--and so taking up parking spots-- all day (Do you realize that March 17 is still 2 weeks away, party people?), and gigantic limos for bachelorette parties that took up 4 spots at one time.

With no other alternatives, I threw on my flashers and dashed into her house to giver her these peanut butter truffles that I had made for her get together.

I found the recipe on Pinterest. It's one of those viral recipes that really have no credibility other than that it's been shared a trillion times.  I halved the recipe simply because I didn't have enough of the ingredients and it still made almost 40 truffles.  I can't even imagine what I would do with 80 truffles, other than gorge myself and give up on fitting into my wedding dress.

But really, these are absolutely delicious. And I bet you have all of the ingredients already in your kitchen!

You'll Need:
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cup Rice Krispies
  • 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/8 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • oil to add for melting chocolate
 Directions:
  1. In a large bowl, mix peanut butter, cereal, sugar, and melted butter until completely incorporated. Add a little bit of extra peanut butter if you need the mixture to stick together more firmly.
  2. Roll mixture into balls and place on a foil-covered cookie sheet. Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes
  3. In a microwavable-safe container, mix chocolate chips and about 1/2 teaspoon of oil. Mix and microwave for 30 seconds at a time until chips are completely melted, stirring at intervals. Add oil for a thinner chocolate consistency.
  4. Dip truffles into chocolate and place back on tray. Chill in the fridge until chocolate is hardened.
And then make sure you find a parking spot when you are taking them to your friend so that you can hang out with her. Don't be the lame one who can't make it to the party 45 minutes after it starts.
